Congratulations on acquiring the 87-C TDC, codenamed "Mephisto!" A manufacturer is not listed due to the obvious fact that this device and any information surrounding its operation is highly illegal, criminalized by the following organizations:
(NOTE: The above list is not all-inclusive and is subject to change without notice. Review this manual regularly for causally-induced modifications to its contents.)
By operating an 87-C TDC, you accept all liability civil, criminal, and otherwise. You agree to hereby indemnify the creators of the 87-C TDC, whomsoever they may be, for all of time and regardless of jurisdiction. You operate the 87-C TDC at your own risk and the risk of every timeline junction in your adjacent S-branes. Be advised that upon contact with a temporal buoy bearing a known DCA or TA transponder, the 87-C TDC will self-destruct. The self-destruction process may pose a hazard to you and anyone in your immediate vicinity. Use caution.
The 87-C TDC is informed by millennia of temporal displacement research and countless causal loops. Unlike Sikaren prototypes, the 87-C TDC is not limited to a narrow temporal range. The following basic features are available:
The displacement calibrator is the central operational feature of the 87-C TDC. The tactile interface of the calibrator allows for entry of coordinates in 53 separate dimensions. This is 8 more dimensions than the leading competitor's product. The 87-C TDC is roughly half the length of an average adult human's forearm and approximately one third the diameter. Its surface is covered with dials that operate the displacement calibrator. Be advised that the 87-C TDC is, by default, in LOCK mode. In LOCK mode, the displacement core cannot be engaged. LOCK mode must be disabled by turning dials 15 and 27 to positions 3 and 5, respectively, then by pressing the silver end button. While holding the silver end button, press the gold end button. This will take the 87-C TDC out of LOCK mode for 15 locally reckoned minutes. It will automatically return to LOCK mode either after the displacement core has been engaged, or after 15 locally reckoned minutes have passed.
Once displacement calibrator coordinates have been entered and the 87-C TDC has been taken out of LOCK mode, the red button on the control surface may be pressed to immediately engage temporal transit.
CAUTION: Initial experiences with temporal transit may be disorienting and induce side effects such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, vertigo, seizures, conjunctivitis, fever, erectile dysfunction, temporary or permanent psychosis, and colorblindness. The operator assumes all liability for any ill effects of operating the 87-C TDC.
The effect of temporal transit is instantaneous from the operator's reference frame. However, inexperienced operators may struggle with the abrupt change of time, location, and conditions. Cognitive capabilities strongly predetermine suitability to tolerate temporal transit without negative side effects.
[See Supplement B for relevant formulae for calculating the displacement calibrator. Operators are advised to obtain the 22-F "Balthasar" Calibration Matrix for effective machine-assisted calculation of displacement calibration coordinates.]
The 87-C TDC is powered by a seletonium-366 pit which has a half-life of approximately 7,882,941 Earth years. The quantity of seletonium-366 included to operate the 87-C TDC is sufficient to operate the unit under normal conditions for up to 9,000 transits. When the seletonium-366 pit is depleted, the end buttons which permit the disabling of LOCK mode will no longer fully depress and the unit will not exit LOCK mode.
As the 87-C TDC is a unibody design, it contains no user serviceable parts and it cannot be refueled once its seletonium-366 pit has been depleted. For a replacement, consult your usual procurer of 87 Series Temporal Displacement Cores.
WARNING: Under no circumstances should an operator attempt to disassemble the 87-C TDC. Rupturing the 87-C TDC's external shielding may create lethal hazards to the user and any other life forms in the vicinity. If you encounter a partially or completely disassembled 87-C TDC, do not attempt to retrieve it. Cordon the affected area up to a theoretically safe radius of two parsecs.
If your 87-C TDC becomes damaged, do not attempt to operate it. As a failsafe, the LOCK mode will fail to disengage if the 87-C TDC has become damaged such that it may no longer operate under safe parameters. Do not attempt to override this failsafe. Lethal injury may occur.
The 87-C TDC is provided with a one-year limited warranty as measured by the device's internal chronometer. Should the 87-C TDC fail to operate properly within that period, return it to your procurer for replacement or refund. Be advised that this warranty only covers factory defects, not accidental or intentional damage.
No part of this warranty, express or implied, offers any remediation or coverage whatsoever for consequences of operating the 87-C TDC. If you accidentally wipe out all life on your homeworld or end up sleeping with your own mother when she's still a teenager, that's not our problem. You were warned.
